My Weekend
03.18.07 (11:58 am)   [edit]

Man, I couldn't wait to get out of work on Friday. I was getting antsy after about 3 o'clock. Derek's father-in-law stopped by my cube to show me some of the training stuff we have on our company site. His weekend started at 3 p.m., when he left my cube. Lucky guy! After work, I met up with some friends and had dinner in Iowa City. Two years ago, our pizza was named "The Jonn Stockton". This time, our pizza was named "The Greg Brunner". Either way, Bob's Your Uncle hit the spot. We soon left and hit up Riverside Casino. Pat and I stuck to the blackjack table while Marie raised hell on the penny slots. At one point, Pat was up $100 and I was up $80. The short story is, we spent all of our money wallets. I managed keep a crisp 20 dollar bill.

Saturday, I slept in before I made my journey to downtown Cedar Rapids. I got all the way down there and realized that I forgot about St. Patrick's Day. I saw a bunch of people leaving the parade, wearing green clothing. I had on a blue polo. Talk about sticking out. I went to work for a quality 50 minutes and then met up Hoeg and his friends at Paddy's. That place was packed. I ran into just about everybody... former neighbors, a friend from Cornell, guys I coached, guys I played against, etc.

The drinks started at 4 in the afternoon. As soon as I got there, one of Hoeg's roommates handed me a beer. Now that is hospitality. Eventually, I ended up getting a green necklace so I got "in the spirit" a couple hours later. We got some taxis and went downtown to Dublin City. The taxi driver let me talk on the radio. I had no idea what was going on. He was telling me, "Say 94. Say 94". I didn't get to say any other cool lingo. I just got to say "94" and "10-4". Tyler wanted to go to Grafton to meet up with some chick he used to work with. We started walking and then I got the bright idea to jump on the back of a moving bus. Tyler and I made it but Hoeg just walked. Tyler almost lost his legs. We went by cops and they didn't even stop us. Eventually the bus driver saw us and stopped. Luckily it was right by Grafton. It was a great time.
