Friday Night in Dubuque
01.31.04 (11:00 am)   [edit]
So, there was a basketball game against Loras at their place--their gym blows by the way. For a 8 o'clock game we had to leave at 2:30. I'm not complaining because I got paid for 9.5 hours. That check on the 15th should be nice. Anyway, we have to leave early because the girls play 2 hours before the guys and they have to get there before us. We had the pleasure (or not) to eat at Bishop's Buffet in some mall in Dubuque as a pre-game meal.

We had some free time before we had to get on the bus so people started walking around the mall by themselves or little groups. While walking through the mall, I walked past a group of 4 girls and they stared, smiled, and kept on walking. As I reached the end of line of stores, I turned around and started walking back the other way. I happen to pass these girls again and I looked at them and gave them a patented Ricky Legree smile and I got about 3 steps past them when I heard one say, "She think he look good as hell. And so do I!" Ahh, music to my ears.

Block break
01.29.04 (11:23 am)   [edit]
5th block is over. No more papers, no more tests, no more skipping a reading assignment...at least until 6th block starts on Monday. The snow is out and its freezing outside. When the temperature is in single digits, I don't think there's many fun activities to be done outdoors.

Tonight I get to play in an exhibition JV game with the basketball team. Even though I'm the manager, I get to lace em up and show all the skills I left behind in 8th grade basketball. We'll see how this turns out.

Arrest-free weekend
01.26.04 (9:52 am)   [edit]
To the best of my knowledge, nobody go arrested this weekend. All you trouble makers and low-lifes should pat yourselves on the back. That goes the same for all you tough guys that get that "liquid courage" once you get a couple sips of that beverage of choice.

Friday night I met some big tough guy named Josh. He was trying to start shiz with Block and eventually it died down. I saw him walking through the bar as if was waiting for someone to look at him wrong. I pulled him over and questioned him on his motives and I got the situation taken care of. Then Saturday this guy was ready to beat up anyone who looked at me wrong. Anyone who even bumped into me was questioned by Josh. Oh what a great town Mt. Vernon is. Heres to strong drinks and backup.

crazy night
01.23.04 (2:21 am)   [edit]
It about 2:10am and I'm still not ready to go to bed. This evening seemed to be a little boring until Paul, Justin, Brook, Dackie, Cody and I got into a comedic conversation that lasted somewhere over an hour. I was getting confused with my project that I'm working on so I had no time brushing homework aside. As usual there was a lot of jokes and a lot of comebacks. To make a long story short, some shiz went down with Cody and Bridget and some swings and kicks were exchanged. I'm not one to put business out in the street but oh well. One of those stories where "you had to be there." Who said Iowa didn't have any action.

Big time laughs
01.21.04 (1:22 pm)   [edit]
If you are feeling like a good laugh--The kind of laugh that makes your eyes water and your stomach tighen up like you've done a thousand crunches, you need to be acquainted with Chappelle's Show. Tonight at 10:30/9:30 central, the first episode of the second season is showing. Clear your schedule, use the bathroom beforehand, and get all the food and beverages that you'll need because you don't want to miss a thing. You can thank me later.

A Different World
01.19.04 (10:48 pm)   [edit]
How many of you guys used to watch "A Different World" with Kadeem Hardeson & Jasmine Guy? Do you remember the cool (well cool back then) glasses that Dwayne Wayne wore? Upon my begging, my mom sent me a care package at school that included my old pair of "Dwayne Wayne Glasses." This priceless item is hard to come by...or at least I like to think so. Watch out Cornell, I got me a purrrr of "Dwayne Wayne Glasses." Don't hate. I haven't chosen the proper time and place to break these bad boys out, but stay tuned. 8)

Hockey
01.19.04 (12:31 pm)   [edit]
The Cornell Hockey club now has a team that plays on Sundays in Iowa City. Last night I skipped some studying to go watch their first game. Sadly, they lost 6-0. It was fun watching them though. About half of them could barely skate around. It was good to laugh at and any sporting event is a good venue to talk smack. The smack talkers consisted of Whoadie Waite, Psycho Phil, Kent the skinny fat guy, Josh the Smirk, a couple of football recruits and yours truly. Annie didn't feel like talkin sh!t, so she just watched. These aren't their actual nicknames but I thought I'd add a little extra. If you're on campus on Sundays, you need to go watch them play a game. It's very entertaining.

Famous folks
01.18.04 (7:57 pm)   [edit]
To my surprise we had some celebrity type peeps at the commons after dinner here at Cornell College. I guess I must have missed the signs saying that there was some sort of function going on. Anyway, Janeane Garofalo and Joan Jett came here and did their thing. And apparently Joan doesn't give a damn about her bad reputation. Along with a little performance they were there to remind us to go to the caucus tomorrow and elect Howard Dean as our Democratic representative to run against Seņor "Dub". That's Mr. W (George W. Bush) for all you confused individuals out there. Too bad dinner sucked, but at least we had some entertainment.

BINGO
01.17.04 (11:32 am)   [edit]
Who said Bingo was for senior citizen women? Last night one of the student groups (PAAC) put on a "Bingo Night" for prizes varying from food, drinks, candy, DVD players, to the grand prize of a printer/copier/scanner. To win the grand prize you put tickets into a bucket for a drawing at the end of the night. I didn't stick around for the final drawing because attendance wasn't necessary. Plus my name and number was on the ticket. I'm not statistical genious but I'm sure one ticket out of the hundreds that were in there wasn't gonna be my name. Especially when some people had about 20 tickets in there.

Oh well, I won some Oreos. The night was almost over and I was being bitter and telling Stacy that I had to win something to make my hours of sitting, standing, and leaning worth while. The last game was worth double food until all the food was gone. I won and got to pick 6 items. The only things left were plain M & Ms, Oreos, Grandma's Peanut Butter cookies and some other nasty thing. I hooked B Vaughan and Paul up with some Grandma's cookies and took 4 little packs of Oreos for myself. It was a good time. Shoulda been therrre.

The other school
01.14.04 (1:05 pm)   [edit]
First of all, props to the Luther College dance team. I don't think there was a guy in the gym that wasn't bored during their part of the halftime festivities. Another thing I liked about Luther, besides the fact that their weight room and fitness stuff is unbelievable, is that they had a contest that could pay for books. Some guy threw out 4 T-shirts and whoever caught a shirt got to compete for free books for the whole semester. This was sponsored by their bookstore. All you college kids know how expensive and overpriced our books are. You had to make a layup, a free throw, a three-pointer, and a shot from half court in 30 seconds. Although it is a short time, it is possible. It's time for our bookstore to do some stuff like that. I'm tired of paying for books.

New T-shirts
01.13.04 (12:38 pm)   [edit]
The new football t-shirts are in. We decided to do our own thing without coaches or administration involved and got our own shirt with the theme of "Revenge Tour." The seniors, myself included, felt that we need to work harder in the off season to lead to great results next fall. The revenge tour is basically us making up for some poor performances this season. We plan on paying back the rest of the Iowa Conference. I'm sure all you Cornellians will see us in our black tees reppin' correct. 8)

It's been a while
01.12.04 (10:47 am)   [edit]
I haven't posted in a while. I guess the term commonly used is busy, but I'll stick to tired. It seems like a rarely get a break. The winter season used to be the most relaxing time. With basketball managing, I don't get to enjoy that. It's fine though. I'm down with having money in my pocket and not having to work extremely hard for it. Speaking of basketball, the guys lost a couple close ones on the road this weekend. They were in it, right down to the end. I feel sorry for the Iowa Conference when these guys start playin up to their abilities.

Which one of you dumbasses pulled the fire alarm at 1 something in the morning. That sh!t ain't cool. Go do it in the freshmen dorms. They don't have a say yet.

Back in Iowa
01.06.04 (12:54 pm)   [edit]
Christmas break is over and now I'm back in below zero temperatures. It seems like every flight had time problems. I especially like the fact that on top of a 50 minute delay on my flight from San Diego to Dallas-Fort Worth, some other plane was at our gate when we landed and we had to chill on the runway for an extra 20 minutes. This was compounded by having to power walk for 10 minutes to make my flight in a totally different section of the airport. I guess when you get there right before the plane leaves, they have to do another security check on you. They were hatin'. It's all good. I got back to school while people connecting in Chicago were screwed.

The class for this block is CS 360: Client Server Systems. Surprisingly this is a comp sci class that doesn't have afternoon class. I'm not complaining. As a matter of fact, I'm gonna take advantage of that right now and take a nap. Peace out.
